About
Peripheries is a journal of place and position. This journal aims to produce an account of cultural life that is truly egalitarian in its geography, seeking simply to narrate life on earth.
Peripheries refuses to reproduce the inclusions and exclusions of capital accumulation to dictate its subjects. Human life is not more interesting or worthwhile because it occurs in the centers of capitalism. In fact, it may be more bound to dominant patterns of social reproduction. The margins may well be where the new world is being born.
Meaningful cultural discourse is the fruit of human joy and belongs to all people, regardless of their position within systems of spatial ordering that assert centers and margins. Peripheries is pragmatically international, affectively local and philosophically liberatory.
We call for the reclaiming of what Felix Guattari deemed “existential cartographies" from the territories imposed by capitalism, imperialism and colonialism. Today’s world calls for the assertion of planetary solidarity, and this journal aims to capture the wide range of subjects who comprise our earthly union.
